Finally! Dick Allen Elected to National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2025
Family, friends, and fans of Philadelphia Phillies Hall of Famer Dick Allen can finally add National Baseball Hall of Famer to his resume. Allen, along with longtime Pittsburgh Pirates great Dave Parker, were selected for enshrinement in Cooperstown by the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Classic Era Committee, the organization announced.
Allen and Parker received 13 and 14 of 16 votes, respectively. The duo are the only two players from the eight-player ballot that focuses on player’s and contributors from pre-1980’s Major League Baseball and the Negro Leagues. Other players up for consideration this year included Ken Boyer, John Donaldson, Steve Garvey, Vic Harris, Tommy John, and Luis Tiant.
For Allen, pending enshrinement ends a decades long battle by the Phillies organization, media members, and fans to see the seven-time MLB All-Star take his rightful place in Cooperstown among other baseball elites. The 1972 American League Most Valuable Player, Allen played the majority of his 15 seasons with the Chicago White Sox and Phillies.
The Wampum, PA native had his number 15 retired by the Phillies in 2020, an honor normally reserved for enshrined members of the Hall of Fame. Allen is considered one of the greatest players of his generation but one that never received proper recognition until recent years.
Hall of Fame weekend begins on Friday, July 25 in Cooperstown, NY. The weekend long festivities conclude with enshrinement ceremonies on Sunday, July 27 on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.
