Dodgers bats silenced by Billingsley, Phillies bullpen

Final: Phillies 7, Dodgers 2

WP: Chad Billingsley (1-2, 6.67 ERA) LP: Brett Anderson (5-5, 3.12 ERA)

Los Angeles, CA - In Chad Billingsley's return to Dodger Stadium, where he called home from 2006 up until needing Tommy John surgery in 2013, he proved to be effective just as his former self by throwing six strong innings. In doing so, Billingsley won his first game Tuesday evening since April 10, 2013 at PetCo Park.

Phillies 1 0 3 0 0 2 1 0 0 7 10 1
Dodgers 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 2 6 1

Billingsley's only earned runs allowed, and the Phillies' entire pitching staff for that matter, was a two-run, sixth inning blast to opposing catcher Yasmani Grandal, his 14th of the season.

The Dodgers were limited to just six hits overall, all of which came from their third through seven-hole hitters: Justin Turner 3B (1), Adrian Gonzalez 1B (1), Grandal C (2), Yasiel Puig RF (1), and Andre Ethier LF (1).

Center fielder Joc Pederson and second baseman Howie Kendrick, at the top of the Dodgers' order, combined for 0-6 with two strikeouts.

Right handers Luis Garcia (8 pitches, 7 strikes), Ken Giles (11 pitches, 9 strikes) and Jonathan Papelbon (21 pitches, 12 strikes) threw a combined three shutout innings of relief for Billingsley, allowing no hits or walks, and striking out four batters.

Offensively for the Phillies, scoring got underway right at the top of the first inning. With one out, center fielder Ben Revere reached on an infield single to the right side of the diamond. Two batters later, first baseman Darin Ruf walked, and left fielder Jeff Francoeur reached safely on a throwing error by Turner to load the bases for shortstop Freddy Galvis. Another infield single for the Phillies came as a result, this time from Galvis, thus scoring the team's first run of the night.

The Phillies quadrupled their lead in the top of the third inning. With two runners in scoring position, rookie third baseman Maikel Franco and Ruf, Francoeur doubled for the 10th time of the season, to deep center field, bringing both runners home. Right fielder Domonic Brown later added another run that inning with a RBI-ground out to give Philadelphia a 4-0 advantage.

Another two runs were added by Pete Mackanin's team in the top of the sixth, as they faced right handed reliever Juan Nicasio. With the bases loaded and one out, Revere hit a two-run single to center field to score Brown and Billingsley from third and second base respectively.

Up 6-2 in the top of the seventh, Francoeur added an insurance run by hitting a 429-foot home run off Nicasio to center field, his sixth of the season and 146th of his career. That would be it scoring-wise for either club.
