Just a late Saturday night thought and one of the last minutes of peace and quiet before the Winter Meetings is full of rumors, thanks to baseball columnists noticing two GMs in the elevator together and writing that they are discussing a blockbouster deal.
Any rate, Chris Starr on Twitter posted this:
Why can't Ruf just play 3rd base? #problemsolved

It reminded me of a time Darin Ruf played a position other than first base or outfield.
Remember the 23-inning marathon the Clearwater Threshers and Jupiter Hammerheads played back in 2011? Darin Ruf was mostly anonymous at the time, but he actually made my blog after that game:
Also noteworthy in the game: The Threshers first baseman Darin Ruf and designated hitter Joe Savery combined to throw four shutout innings from innings 19 through 22.
After that night the Phillies decided to try Savery as a pitcher again. Ruf never got such a chance. Soon as the Threshers took out Ruf, their closer Justin Friend gave up the game-losing hit.
I wonder if they would have let Ruf pitch if they felt he had a chance to be a major leaguer.
