The Eagles coaching search has been underway for a few days now. But on Saturday, one name that has interviewed for the job has been revealed.
According to ESPN's Ed Werder, running back coach Duce Staley has interviewed for the position. The interview took place on Friday.
Staley has been the running back coach for the Eagles since Chip Kelly's hiring in 2013. Staley rejoined the Eagles organization in 2010 as a coaching intern and then a special teams coach prior to being named running back coach.
Staley was also one of the Eagles most memorable players from the Andy Reid era. Staley played seven seasons with the Eagles from 1997 to 2003, rushing for 22 touchdowns and 4,807 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns and 2,498 yards in 98 games with the Eagles.
Jeffrey Lurie said that the Eagles would look internally as part of the selection process, though it seems the Eagles would be more likely to hire from elsewhere.
The interview and consideration for Staley also fulfills the Rooney Rule. By NFL rules, teams in the hiring process must consider minority candidates for coaching and senior football operations positions.
Staley is also able to be interviewed because he is working for the Eagles organization already, whereas other NFL coaches and coordinators and college coaches are still completing their seasons and under contract.
