The Eagles 2017 season schedule was officially released on Thursday night. While the offseason is in full swing with the NFL Draft coming up in another week, the release of the schedule is essentially the early dawn of the new season, sparking anticipation for upcoming games.
While the full schedule was released at 8 p.m., some of the games and their scheduled dates were leaked early.
The Eagles open the season on the road against the Washington Redskins, as first reported by ESPN's Adam Caplan.
The Eagles will make a West Coast trip on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, facing the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams in back-to-back weeks, as to Jeff McLane first reported.
NJ.com's Mark Eckel was first to report the Eagles two meetings with the New York Giants, at home on Sept. 24 and on the road on Dec. 17.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune had the entire Chicago Bears schedule reported first, which includes the Eagles playing host to the Bears on Nov. 26.
The Eagles will open at home against the Giants on Sept. 24 in Week 3 after two games on the road in Washington and Kansas City to open the season. The Week 2 game against the Chiefs marks a return to Kansas City for head coach Doug Pederson, who served as the Chiefs offensive coordinator before being hired by the Eagles.
The Eagles make their first West Coast trip in Week 4, facing the Chargers.
The most interesting part of the schedule comes from Week 5-7 for the Eagles. Their Week 5 game is at home against Arizona, but they have a short week, traveling to Carolina to face the Panthers on Thursday night just four days later. They then get 11 days off before playing the Redskins on Monday night at home in Week 7.
A pair of home games in Weeks 8 and 9 against the 49ers and Broncos ushers in a relatively late bye week for the Eagles in Week 10.
Out of the bye, the Eagles get a primetime matchup, one of five on the schedule, against the Dallas Cowboys on the road. A home game against Chicago in Week 12 precedes the second West Coast trip, with games against Seattle and the Los Angeles Rams. Following the West Coast trip, the Eagles close out the road schedule in the regular season against the Giants before returning home for the final two games — a Christmas Day night game against the Raiders and a New Year's Eve matinee against the Cowboys.
