Eagles among lowest 2016 Super Bowl odds

Though they drafted Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick, a good percentage of the Philadelphia Eagles off-season moves looked like they were done with the intention of allowing the Philadelphia Eagles to compete within the next few seasons.

The Eagles extended Sam Bradford, who returned to the team earlier this week, gave out long-term deals to Zach Ertz, Vinny Curry, Malcolm Jenkins and Lane Johnson, while signing Brandon Brooks, Rodney McLeod and Rueben Randle to free-agent contracts.

Still, following the NFL Draft's completion, the Eagles' Superbowl odds seem to speak to them being a team that's years away from competing for a Super Bowl.

According to Mytopsportsbooks.com, the Eagles have the NFL's 27th best odds to win Super Bowl 51, as they are tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars with 65/1 odds. Only the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Teneessee Titans and Detroit Lions have worse odds.

Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia's Rueben Frank said in a March edition of Quick Slants that vice president of football operations Howie Roseman ''deserved a ton of credit" for the work he did in his first off-season back in control of the team's personnel, though that doesn't necessarilly mean the Eagles will be a contender in 2016.

ESPN NFL Insider Dan Graziano, who released his post NFL Draft power-rankings Tuesday, had the Eagles ranked as the 22nd best team in the league following the draft, but suggested that if the Eagles use more than Sam Bradford at quarterback this season, they may drop in his power-rankings, which seems to be in line with the Mytopsportsbooks.com countdown.

It appears that the Eagles off-season moves will keep them from fading into being a team that picks in the top five of the the 2017 NFL Draft, but if the team is going to see a Super Bowl like pay off from this season, it's going to be when Carson Wentz is starting, a few seasons from now.
