According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Eagles and Dolphins are discussing a potential trade that would send cornerback Byron Maxwell to Miami.

Maxwell signed a six-year/$63 million contract last offseason with $25 million of it guaranteed. In 14 games, he had 52 tackles, two interceptions, and 10 pass deflections. While some of the criticism surrounding Maxwell was somewhat over the top, given his lofty contract, the former Seahawks defensive back wasn't the shutdown presence many thought he could be when he came over from Seattle.
Last year, the #Eagles gave CB Byron Maxwell a 6-year deal worth $63M. This year, they're deep in discussions to trade him to the #Dolphins.

Maxwell carries a $9.7 million cap hit for the 2016 season.
Maxwell has a cap number of $9.7M this season. Eagles would save $4.9 if they trade him (per https://t.co/hHw01M1CZr), absorb the rest.

2017 would be the first year the Eagles could have cut ties with him without suffering a devastating penalty in terms of dead money. There is no details about what a potential return would be in a trade with the Dolphins, but it's evident that Howie Roseman has made it a priority to try and clean up as much of the salary cap mess left behind for him after having re-assumed personnel control.
We will try and keep this story up to date as much as possible as the apparent discussions continue.
