Eagles Bring Back Alex Ellis
By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Editor
It’s officially Dallas week and the Birds will host their division rivals this week.
The team will be all hands on deck starting with practice tomorrow and the Eagles made a minor, but potentially impactful move on Monday night.
The team announced that they had brought back tight end Alex Ellis and given him a place on the practice squad.

Scott Orndoff, who was signed shortly after he was drafted into the XFL, was waived to make room for Ellis.
Ellis was a standout in training camp after many, including myself, were critical of the move when he was signed late in training camp, dropping a player from a position of need to add to what may be their most loaded position.
He was strong enough in camp that he was one of the first players brought back to the team’s initial practice squad which was a temporary move as Ellis was the 54th man and was on the 53-man roster by week one, taking Cre’Von LeBlanc’s spot following his placement on IR.
Ellis was a good addition and did very well blocking in his short time on the active roster.
Of the two in the Packers game, one was a great pickup to prevent the Packers defender getting Jordan Howard in the backfield and the play is instead an easy TD run. pic.twitter.com/LzpbxDrk8C

This is very similar to the play in the Lions game last week, except Ellis makes the block after being lined up as a fullback instead of coming across the formation. pic.twitter.com/Q1uVTBFKBO

Ellis suffered an injury and was waived with an injury designation. His signing with the team again means that the amount of time required for the Eagles to re-sign him has passed.
It would not at all be a surprise if Ellis is called up to the 53-man roster following an injury or some other roster opening.
Both he and Perkins should find themselves in camp with the Eagles in 2020 unless they are offered a guaranteed contract elsewhere.
Ellis has been in the league since 2016 and appeared in 11 games with the Eagles, Jaguars and Chiefs. He has been used primarily on special teams and for blocking as is evident by his total of 11 receiving yards.
Ellis has also been with the Titans and Saints, though he was never on their active roster.
