With DeSean Jackson possibly out for the rest of the season and the team clinging to Mack Hollins, a special teams “ace” that has more penalties on special teams than impact plays, and JJ Arcega Whiteside, who lost the Eagles a game with a drop of a ball that hit him in the face, the Eagles needed reinforcements at receiver.
The Eagles are reportedly finally making a move, signing receiver Jordan Matthews for his third stint with the team, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
With #Eagles WR DeSean Jackson on Injured Reserve after surgery, source say Philly is re-signing an old friend: Jordan Matthews is back with the #Eagles.

Matthews played in under 37% of the Eagles offensive snaps last year after not being with the team for the first two weeks.
Despite his limited snaps and time with the team, he managed to catch over 71% of passes thrown his way and rack up 300 yards with two touchdowns.
Ideally, Matthews will get more offensive snaps this time around and the team will give him breaks to allow JJ Arcega-Whiteside some time on the field to see what he can do.
If Matthews does well, it would behoove the Eagles to consider signing him to an inexpensive deal for 2020. That way the team has the option to incorporate him from the start of the season but could also have the flexibility to release or trade him should they find the solutions elsewhere in free agency, trades or the draft.
The addition of Matthews certainly improves the Eagles receiver room and an argument could be made that he is now the team’s second-best receiver.
With that said, I would expect the Eagles are looking into other options at receiver as well, possibly kicking the tires on receivers like Mike Wallace or Marken Michel, placing a waiver claim for Gary Jennings or looking at promoting Greg Ward Jr. from the practice squad.
They will still have one spot open on the active roster even after the signing of Matthews.
Update: After nearly a week, the Eagles have made the signing official.
