The Eagles officially decided to put an end to Jason Kelce's 2012 campaign, placing him on the season ending Injured Reserve due to a torn MCL and partially torn ACL. There was a slim possibility that Kelce could return to action once his MCL healed after the approximated 4-6 weeks, but Philadelphia immediately put him on the mend.
To take his place on the roster, the Eagles signed G/C Steve Vallos, who was with Philadelphia during Training Camp. The 28 year old Vallos is a 5 year veteran, and has spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns. In his first two seasons in the NFL, Vallos played some part in all 32 Regular Season Games, and started a total of 8 games. He saw more of a limited role during his time with Cleveland the past two seasons, before landing in Philadelphia.
He impressed most during the Preseason, and many had him projected as the backup Center on the Eagles 53 man roster. However, the Eagles decided to go with Dallas Reynolds, who had spent three years on the Eagles practice squad, and let go of Vallos.
Reynolds played well once Kelce went down, and was able to limit Baltimore's All Pro DT Haloti Ngata. He'll continue to start at Center for the forseeable future, but Steve Vallos is a fairly decent option as a backup, seeing the NFL experience he brings to the table.
