The beat rolls on for the Eagles as training camp continued on Tuesday. Just three days remain until game action. Even for a preseason game, this will be a welcome sight.
The Eagles are expecting big things on offense once again this season after last season’s historic success.
There has been a lot of focus during camp on the defense and making improvements to a secondary that was shaky for most of the season. In the beginning, the change was noticeable while the offense focused on just fine-tuning things that are a customary part of the Eagles playbook.
But the offense has made improvements too. Zach Ertz is perhaps the most noticeable.
Ertz continues to make catch after catch and could be the Eagles top tight end.
Jordan Matthews had a strong day at camp as well, working on Brandon Boykin. Matthews made some plays that showed the rookie is poised for big things. Boykin has usually had his way with Matthews.
Here are the rest of the highlights and happenings from Day 11 of Eagles camp:
- Brandon Graham took reps with the first-team defense on Tuesday just one day after being a player defensive coordinator Billy Davis noted Graham was one of the players he was most excited to see in Friday’s preseason opener.
- The cries were loud and clear for a new kicker at the end of last season. But Alex Henery has, for now, stepped his game up. He’s rarely faltered in camp, making a strong case to already have locked down the kicker position. Undrafted rookie Casey Spear was competing with Henery for the starting job.
- LeSean McCoy spoke following practice and was asked about the combination of he and Darren Sproles getting a majority of the touches out of the backfield this season. His response: “You won't know who has the ball. We are going at such a fast pace, it's really hard for defenses to say ‘Ok, we've seen this formation from watching film, let's line up for it.' We're going so fast, it's hard to really do that. Us working together, we should do a lot of things."
- Injury Report: Jeremy Maclin started practice but once again left before its conclusion with leg soreness. He ensured he would practice on Wednesday. The rest of the injury list remained the same. Riley Cooper, Jeff Maehl and Chris Polk were all out again. Julian Vandervelde was out once again as well. For the second straight day, Nolan Carroll missed practice.
The Eagles retirn to the practice field at NovaCare Complex on Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. Pat Shurmur will address the media prior to practice. The Eagles will also practice on Thursday before Friday’s game and a day off on Sunday.
