Just one day separates the routine of Eagles came and a preseason game, the unofficial opening of the 2014 season. It is a chance to get a look at this year’s Eagles, even if it is a brief one.
Chip Kelly spoke on Wednesday and said that the starters would not get a lot of game action on Friday.
“We are going to try to get them 10-15 snaps,” Kelly said. “It depends on how the game goes. It really depends on offensively and defensively how much success you have. It could be you get a couple three-and-outs, and you have to go back out there. It's going to be a fluid situation.”
Kelly said that the preseason offers the chance to “see everybody.” He stressed looking at the team as a whole, the reason that the focus on the starters, especially in the first game, is minimal.
Here are the rest of the highlights and happenings from Day 12 of Eagles camp:
- The one-on-one battles between Brandon Boykin and Jordan Matthews are becoming the talk of camp. The rookie wide receiver impresses the veterans on offense and the cornerback trying to defend him. But Boykin has impressed on his end too, showing that he looks like the Eagles best corner at the moment.
- Matthews isn’t the only player that Boykin has his eye on. Josh Huff has proved to be a steady part of the early camp success too. The Eagles are trying to fill the void of DeSean Jackson and while Matthews will carry the bulk of it, Huff is going to be an under-the-radar kind of player.
- Injury Report: Riley Cooper and Nolan Carroll sat out practice again and Chip Kelly announced that it was very likely both miss Friday’s game. Jeremy Maclin participated in a walk through and will be active on Friday. Chris Polk, Julian Vandervelde and Jeff Maehl remained out on Wednesday and Bennie Logan was limited in practice. Logan remains questionable for Friday’s game.
The Eagles will hold their last practice of the week on Thursday at NovaCare Complex starting at 11:45 a.m. Chip Kelly will address the media before practice. Nick Foles and DeMeco Ryans will speak after practice.
