Before they were able to officially make their selection with the second overall pick, Carson Wentz was brought into Philadelphia for an official visit.
One week later, he officially joined the Eagles as their first-round selection.
At his introductory press conference, where he made his first impression for Eagles fans, he seemed to say all the right things. Apparently, he said all the right things at his meeting with the Eagles too, including the final message he left with the team that ultimately landed the quarterback prospect.
The Eagles official website released a video of the call between Eagles management and Wentz on Draft night, moments before the pick was announced. Wentz spoke with Howie Roseman, Jeffrey Lurie and Doug Pederson, but when they handed the phone off to offensive coordinator Frank Reich, we heard the words Wentz told the Eagles as they parted ways from their pre-Draft meeting.
The Eagles told Wentz they would love to have him as an Eagle. Wentz told the Eagles, "make it happen."
Watching the exchange between Wentz and his new coaches, all newcomers to the Eagles coaching staff, you can sense the overall excitement to be starting off a new era. Wentz certainly comes complete with the intangibles, as you hear Reich point out "toughness and competitiveness," but as we profiled, Wentz has the physical ability to succeed and the willingness to learn to indeed make it happen.
