Eagles Dominated in Loss to Seahawks

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

For a good portion of the afternoon, the margin was within 10 points. It might as well have been 30.

The Seahawks dominated the Eagles in every facet of the game and when the Eagles appeared to have an answer to keep them competitive in the game, an inexcusable penalty turned the tide in the game.

Seattle rolled from there, claiming a 26-15 win over the Eagles on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

Scoring Summary

  1 2 3 4 T
Eagles 0 7 0 8 15
Seahawks 6 10 7 3 26

Seattle opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 72-yard touchdown run by C.J. Prosise, but the extra point was blocked. Two drives later, the Eagles responded with a drive that lasted the remainder of the first quarter and into the second, taking over seven minutes off the clock. It ended with a four-yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz to Zach Ertz and the Eagles took the lead with a successful extra point.

The Seahawks answered again midway through the second with Russell Wilson connecting with Jimmy Graham on 3rd and 11 for a 35-yard touchdown pass.

The turning point of the game came on the Eagles next offensive drive. On 3rd and 6, the Eagles ran a perfect play with Wentz throwing a short pass to Ertz, who took it all the way down the field to the endzone for a touchdown. But the 57-yard play was nullified by an illegal formation penalty, as Nelson Agholor was not lined up on the line of scrimmage. The Eagles were forced to punt two plays later.

Seattle added a field goal on the ensuing drive and the Eagles never got going again, going three-and-out on the next drive and Wentz throwing an interception to close the half.

Wentz threw his second interception on the Eagles second drive of the second half. The Seahawks ensuing possession turned into another touchdown, as Wilson tossed the ball to Doug Baldwin behind the line of scrimmage and threw to Wilson in the corner of the endzone for the 15-yard touchdown.

The Eagles never recovered from there, gaining just 46 yards in the second half. Seattle added another field goal to ice the game.

The Eagles did add a late touchdown pass to Dorial Green-Beckham and converted on the two-point conversion to Nelson Agholor, but never got any closer.
