Mark Eckel of NJ.com has since confirmed that the Eagles plan to hire Schwartz.
Jim Schwartz, the one-time head coach of the Detroit Lions, is expected to be Eagles head coach Doug Pederson's defensive coordinator a source confirmed to N.J. Advance Media Monday night.
Schwartz was the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2014, before Rex Ryan became the team's head-coach this past season and brought in his own staff. Buffalo ranked as the fourth overall unit in 2014 under Schwartz, but dropped to 19th this season under Ryan.
Prior to that, Schwartz served as the Lions' head-coach from 2009 to 2013, posting a 29-51 record and leading the team to one playoff appearance.
As Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice notes, Schwartz has led some top-notch units in his most recent seasons in the league.

Schwartz would likely represent a switch to a 4-3 defense, something that Fletcher Cox voiced his support for this afternoon.
The Eagles were reportedly denied access to speak with New York Giants' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnulo prior to shifting their focus to Schwartz.
We will have more on this breaking story as it is confirmed.
