Eagles-Falcons: Sunday Six Pack

By Kevin Durso, Sports Talk Philly editor

It's been a trying five weeks for the Philadelphia Eagles, who enter Week 10 with a 4-4 record after losses in four of their last five games.

The road gets no easier as the Atlanta Falcons pay a visit to Philadelphia. The Falcons come in with a 6-3 record, leading the NFC South, and wins in back-to-back weeks.

Here are six players to watch in Sunday's game.

Carson Wentz – The Eagles rookie has dealt with his share of growing pains — see last Sunday's first quarter — but has recovered as games have progressed. Wentz has put together a solid rookie campaign, but with limited weapons around him, he has tried to carry the offense himself at times. For Wentz, the best thing to do may be to just keep it simple, and we'll see if he can parlay that into a better performance this week.

Matt Ryan – Make no mistake about it, Matt Ryan has been an MVP candidate. The Falcons QB has thrown for almost 3,000 yards, 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions. The mistakes are limited, the Atlanta offense is rolling and with some of the weapons around him, Ryan continues to flourish.

Jordan Hicks – The Eagles linebacker has been the standout on defense in each of the last two weeks. Hicks came up with a clutch interception last Sunday that should have set up a game-winning score. Nonetheless, the Eagles can't ask for much more out of the 2015 third-round pick.

Julio Jones – After watching the secondary get torched by Odell Beckham Jr. for two touchdowns and the rest of the Giants wide receivers last week, the Eagles get their toughest task to date in Julio Jones. Jones has 970 receiving yards and five touchdowns…and the season is only halfway over. He's averaging 107.8 yards per game and 19 yards per catch. It's a tall task for any defense. Given the way the passing defense has been of late, it feels like an impossible task for this Eagles team.

Bryce Treggs - It's only been one game for Treggs, and he got just 15 snaps and made two catches in the game, but the potential is there to utilize Treggs as an additional weapon for Wentz. The Eagles need to put Treggs' speed to work and see if creating separation in the secondary can open up the rest of the offense.

Vic Beasley Jr. – The Falcons defensive lineman has the fifth-highest sack total this season and second-highest in the NFC. Beasley Jr. has managed 7.5 sacks on the season, and given the state of the Eagles offensive line, containing him and protecting Wentz from being hit is imperative to the offense's success.
