In case you haven't heard, new Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford has a history of knee problems, having torn the same acl in consecutive seasons.
In case you also haven't heard, Pope Francis is visiting Philadelphia from September 26 until the 27th.
If you ignored the headline of this article, you are probably wondering what in the world these two facts have in common with one another.
I must then assume that you are not only a poor reader, but also not a Philadelphia Eagles sports fan. Because if you've grown up in this area long enough, you probably would have put two and two together by now, given the passion with which Philadelphians follow our beloved Birds.
Yes, an Eagles fan has started a petition on Change.Org, a website traditionally reserved for starting petitions for meaningful, social or political issues, to have Pope Francis bless Bradford's oft-injured knee.
I can't make this stuff up.
The petition, which can be found here, reads as follows:
The Pope is coming to Philly! Our city! With this Eagles season coming up, a lot of our Super Bowl hopes rely on Sam Bradford's knees staying healthy. So, with one of the most religious representatives in the world visiting our wonderful place we call home, how about we get him to bless Bradford's knees during his visit to Philly! This town deserves a Super Bowl, and a healthy Bradford is the only way we will have a parade down Broad Street! Please sign this petition and Go Eagles and Welcome to Philly, Pope Francis!!!!
Over 750 Eagles fans have signed the petition already. I am going out on a limb and guessing that Pope Francis might be too busy during his trip to swing by the Linc for a quick blessing. But, this petition tells you all that you need to know about the state of Eagles fans these days. Their psyche is about as fragile as Bradford's knee.
