Eagles Hire Bill Musgrave As Quarterbacks Coach
Bill Musgrave has been hired to replace Bill Lazor as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach.
Nick Foles is about to get his third quarterbacks coach in as many years after Bill Lazor flew the coop to accept the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator position.
On the same day that a second- of Chip Kelly's lieutenants jumped ship, the Philadelphia Eagles moved forward and hired Bill Musgrave to replace Lazor as the team's quarterbacks coach.
This is Musgrave's second go-round with the Eagles after serving as an offensive assistant under then head coach Ray Rhodes in 1998.
Last season Musgrave, 46, served as the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator.
Musgrave spent the previous three seasons with the Vikings, and had previously worked for the Falcons, Redskins, Jaguars, Panthers and Raiders.
Kelly specifically cited Musgrave as a reason for Matt Cassel's success against the Eagles back on December 15.
After Lazor moved on, much attention was given to who exactly would be tasked with assisting in the evolution of Foles as he enters his third NFL season, but first as the unquestioned starting quarterback.
In 2013 Foles finished with 29 total touchdowns and two interceptions, including the playoffs. His 19.2 passer rating is third-highest in NFL history and his 27-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio is the best in league history.
Musgrave played quarterback at the University of Oregon and is deeply rooted in the west coast offense at the NFL level, similarly to Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
