Wheeler, 24, was signed by the Panthers as a rookie free agent in 2014 and was waived before being claimed by the Bills before training camp last season. He played in Buffalo's four preseason games, but was let go during the final cut of the roster. He signed with Seattle after the season ended, but was cut after the draft.
At 6-5 and 320 pounds, Wheeler is familiar with current Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Stoutland recruited Wheeler to the University of Miami, where he played in 38 games and started six games as a senior.
Wheeler has never played in a regular season NFL game. He, along with rookie free agents Malcolm Bunche, Brett Boyko and Cole Manhart are in the mix for a backup spot.
