As sources told Eagledelphia last night, Riley Cooper and the Eagles were close to agreeing on a five-year deal. Today, the wide receiver and team agreed on a 25 million dollar deal that will keep Cooper in Philadelphia for the next five years.
Last season Cooper emerged as one of Nick Foles favorite targets, as he finished with a career high in receptions (47), yards (835), and touchdowns (8). When Foles starts, Cooper is a big contributor. In 16 games the pair have combined for 55 receptions for 935 yards and nine touchdowns.
The Florida wide out has now worked his way up from second team to number two receiver, complimenting DeSean Jackson. The wide receiving duo helped the Eagles to set team records in total offense.
The Eagles were not finished with giving out contracts. One day after extending Jason Peters, the Eagles took steps to keep their line intact as Jason Kelce signed a seven-year extension worth $37.5 million. Kelce is entering his fourth season with the team after being selected in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft.
As previously reported, it is now expected that the Eagles turn their attention to fellow wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who sources say is close to a one-year “prove it” deal.
Prior to Cooper’s emergence, Maclin was Foles primary target in 2012, as he targeted the talented Missouri wide out 8.5 times per game.
