Eagles Lose Derek Barnett For Season
By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Editor
The Eagles already have Tim Jernigan missing significant time this season and have Jay Ajayi, Mack Hollins, Rodney McLeod, Richard Rodgers, Destiny Vaeao and Mike Wallace on IR. They will soon be joined by another.
Defensive end and 2017 first-round pick Derek Barnett will become the seventh impact player the Eagles will place on IR through seven games, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Eagles’ DE Derek Barnett is undergoing shoulder surgery and is now out for the season, per source. The former first-round pick recorded 2.5 sacks and 17 tackles this season.

Barnett had played in six of the Eagles seven games this season and had been in for 53% of defensive snaps. He registered 12 tackles and two and a half sacks across those six games.
Michael Bennett is likely to see more playing time with Barnett out as is rookie fourth-round pick Josh Sweat, who has played only 15 snaps to this point in the season. Bennett has registered 15 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble so far this season while Sweat was able to manage a tackle in his limited snaps.
Barnett has not yet been officially placed on IR, so no corresponding move has been made. With the trade deadline a week away, Barnett’s roster spot could be given to a player the birds choose to acquire.
