The Eagles officially announced the hiring of Mike Groh as the team's new wide receivers coach on Tuesday.
Groh, who spent the 2016 season as the Los Angeles Rams wide receivers coach, replaces Greg Lewis, who in his first season as wide receivers coach saw the group as a whole take a step back. Only one Eagles receiver, Jordan Matthews, broke 500 yards on the season.
Groh spent three seasons with the Chicago Bears prior to joining the Rams in 2016, working with current Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas and director of pro scouting Dwayne Joseph.
Prior to his time with Chicago, Groh had success as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama in 2011 and 2012. In both seasons, the Crimson Tide won the National Championship.
Before his coaching career, Groh was a quarterback, linebacker and kicker for his high school team, Randolph (New Jersey), and played two seasons as the quarterback for the University of Virginia.
Darren Sproles, Jason Kelce Named to Pro Bowl
With the Atlanta Falcons reaching the Super Bowl on Sunday, running back Devonta Freeman and center Alex Mack will no longer be participating in the Pro Bowl. As a result, two Eagles are going to the Pro Bowl as replacements.
Running back Darren Sproles and center Jason Kelce will join Jason Peters and Fletcher Cox as the four Eagles representative at the Pro Bowl on Sunday at 8 p.m. in Orlando.
Sproles had 438 rushing yards, 427 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the 2016 season. He also returned a punt for a touchdown and average 13.2 yards per return.
Kelce had an up-and-down season, one that has led to rumors of his possible release, but played every snap for the Eagles in the 2016 season.
