It's been a quiet month for LeSean McCoy who burst into this season as the league's leading rusher having only surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark once since September.
Nobody would blame LeSean McCoy for being frustrated by the yardage slump he's been mired in for the past month.
In the first four weeks of the season as Chip Kelly euphoria reigned supreme over the Philadelphia Eagles and Delaware Valley alike McCoy burst out of the gate with 468 yards and two touchdowns while averaging a paltry six yards per carry.
The 25-year old has only surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark once since the Denver Broncos held him to 73 yards in week five.
Yet McCoy has simply put his head down and kept working.
"I'm not frustrated," McCoy said. "We won the game, we didn't run the ball much, we were scoring and striking every time we got the ball. I wasn't frustrated with the carries or the yardage. I thought if I had the ball 20-something times, I'd probably have over 100 [yards.]"
Despite of his struggles to find daylight, McCoy scored a receiving touchdown against the Raiders Sunday.
Still, it's hard to argue whether it's defenses taking McCoy and the Eagles run game out of the equation or the record-tying performance of Nick Foles Sunday afternoon against the Oakland Raiders, Kelly just may have stumbled on the equation to keep the offense firing on all cylinders: passing to set up the run.
"We look at it overall," Kelly said Wednesday. "Thank goodness we're not in a fantasy league as coaches."
Count McCoy being lock-step with the head coach on this one.
“They’re trying to do as much as possible to stop the run,” he said, “but like I said before, if that’s what you want to do, we’ll take our shots in the quick game, the sidelines, over the top, things you’ve seen last week. It’s a matter of what you really want.”
In the past three games, McCoy has averaged just 49 rushing yards on 15 carries. Yet if the offense is working and Kelly continues that trend against the Packers, it won't upset the franchise running back.
“I don’t mind it,” McCoy pointed out. “Coach Kelly is the type of coach where you can talk to him about anything, on or off the field. And if carries are a concern, I would bring that up.”
Even with Bryce Brown emerging with seven carries against the Raiders on Sunday, McCoy seems poised to continue to work his way through his recent dry spell and do whatever it takes to help the team.
