The Eagles defeated the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 43-35 on Sunday evening in a game that included four second-half lead changes and one devastating injury.
The Eagles received the opening kickoff, but after Nelson Agholor failed to gather a Carson Wentz pass on third down in Eagles' territory and Kayvon Webster pounced on the deflection that came off of Agholor, the Rams were set up with great field position for their first drive of the game.
The Rams took advantage, thanks in large part to running back Todd Gurley. Gurley broke off a 30-yard run that put the Rams at the Eagles' goal line – the longest rush allowed by the Eagles since week 4.
On the next play Gurley would punch it in to give the Rams an early 7-0 lead.
The Eagles responded with a tremendous drive to overcome their early turnover. The drive opened with a 28-yard catch and run by Corey Clement that placed the Eagles in Rams' territory. The Eagles then pounded the ball with Jay Ajayi to pick up another first down.
A third first down came after Wentz found Alshon Jeffery along the sideline, getting the the Eagles into the red zone. Wentz then targeted Brent Celek in the end zone who drew a flag on Alec Ogletree for pass interference, putting the Eagles on the goal line.
After a false start erased an Eagles touchdown Wentz went to Celek again who found his way into the end zone to tie the game.
The Rams were forced to punt on the next drive while the Eagles continued to build momentum.
After another Rams pass interference set the Eagles up in Los Angeles territory the Eagles would drive down to the Rams 20-yard line before Wentz threaded the needle to Trey Burton in the end zone, putting the Eagles up 14-7.
The Eagles would waste no time taking a two score lead, with Wentz finding Burton again on the Eagles' next drive to make it 21-7.
The Rams would catch a break on the following drive after Cooper Kupp took advantage of two missed tackles by the Eagles secondary and turned an out route into a huge 64-yard gain that put the Rams deep in Eagles territory, On 3rd & 5 Jared Goff would go back to Kupp who battled his way to the pylon, trimming the Eagles lead to seven points.
The Eagles had the luxury of owning the final possession of the first half and they took advantage. Carson Wentz dissected the Rams defense after starting at his own 15-yard line. Wentz got a huge help from Torrey Smith who got to the Rams 24-yard line after an impressive catch and run.
The Eagles offense would stall on the Rams 4-yard line and Jake Elliott would kick a 22-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 24-14 lead at halftime.
The Rams erased the deficit quickly in the second half. With the first possession of the half Todd Gurley gutted the Eagles defense. Jared Goff capped off the drive with a quick pass to Sammy Watkins for a touchdown on the goal line.
The Eagles were forced to punt on the following drive and the Rams special teams came up with a momentum shifting play blocking the Donnie Jones punt and Blake Countess – an Eagles sixth round pick in 2016 – scooped up the ball and ran it into the endzone to give the Rams a 28-24 lead.
Carson Wentz would put the Eagles on his back to regain the lead with a number of great passes to move the chains and get the Eagles into the red zone. Six different Eagles gained yards on the drive before the Eagles were face with a 4th and goal that Doug Pederson decided to attempt to convert.
Wentz would stand in the pocket and deliver a ball into a crowd – one that Alshon Jeffery would scoop up just before it hit the turf to give the lead back to the Eagles. With that touchdown Wentz took sole possession of the Eagles franchise single-season touchdown record.
Unfortunately Wentz would not return after this play, leaving the game with a knee injury suffered earlier in the drive when he scrambled for a touchdown that was negated by a Lane Johnson hold. Here is the play:

The Rams would slice through the Eagles defense on the ensuing drive, advancing the ball at will, especially with Todd Gurley.
It would be Gurley who would punch it in for the Rams, giving them a 35-31 lead.
Nick Foles led a promising Eagles drive, but the Rams defense held and Jake Elliott would kick a 41-yard field goal to make it a one point game.
The Eagles defense would finally get a big play to give the Eagles some much needed momentum after the injury to Wentz. Chris Long would register a strip sack on Jared Goff that was not an to set the Eagles up in Rams territory.
The drive would stall forcing a 54-yard field goal from Jake Elliott. After a great recovery on a bad snap by Donnie Jones, Elliott would boot the ball through the uprights.
The referees would call a leverage penalty on the Rams on the play, and the Eagles would take the points off of the board with more chances to pick up six points.
The Eagles offense would not take advantage and Elliott would kick a 33-yard field goal to give the Eagles a 37-35 lead.
The Eagles defense would force a three-and-out and the Rams opted to punt.
With the game in the balance the Eagles were faced with a 3rd and 8. Nelson Agholor made an incredible catch to keep the drive alive, and keep the Eagles in control of the clock.
The Eagles would stay in control of the ball down to the one second mark following a Donnie Jones punt.
On the Rams final play Brandon Graham intercepted a lateral to Tavon Austin and returned it for a touchdown to end the game.
The Eagles won 43-35, and regained sole possession of the top seed in the NFC with an 11-2. The Eagles also clinched a playoff spot and their 10th NFC East division title.
Despite an early exit Carson Wentz would finish with 291 yards and four touchdowns.
Jay Ajayi led the Eagles with 78 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Torrey Smith had his best game as an Eagle with six catches for 100 yards. Agholor led the team with eight receptions.
Todd Gurley had the best game of any running back against the Eagles this season with two touchdowns and 96 yards on 13 carries.
The Eagles return to action next week against week against the New York Giants.
