Eagles Re-Sign Cedric Thornton
Cedric Thornton re-signed with the Eagles Monday on a one-year deal after having a breakout 2013 campaign.
Howie Roseman, Chip Kelly and the Eagles continued Monday to take care of their own soon to be free agents by re-upping defensive lineman Cedric Thornton for a one-year deal.
Last week the Eagles re-signed Jason Kelce, Jason Peters, Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin before turning the page to the defensive side of the ball Monday with Thornton's deal.
Last season was a breakout year of sorts for Thornton who frequently drew high praise from both Kelly and defensive coordinator Billy Davis Jr.
Only Fletcher Cox took more snaps along the defensive line than Thornton did a year ago while the 25-year old finished with 60 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.
Thornton, 6-4, 309 played college ball at Southern Arkansas, earning an invitation to the 2011 Senior Bowl. After going undrafted, the Eagles signed him as a free agent, and he spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad.
Prior to signing the one-year extension with the Eagles Monday, Thornton had been an exclusive rights free agent, meaning that no other teams could negotiate with him. He is eligible to be a restricted free agent next offseason.
