With the deadline for teams to cut down their rosters from 90 to 53 by 4:00 p.m. tomorrow the moves will start coming fast and furious.
The Eagles have begun to trim their roster by reaching an injury settlement with wide receiver Paul Turner, as reported by Dave Zangaro of Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia, and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Turner was an undrafted free agent last season out of Louisiana Tech University. Turner became a fan favorite after standing out in the preseason last year, and many fans were disgruntled when Turner was placed on the practice squad when he did not win a roster spot out of camp.
Turner stayed patient and bided his time on the Practice squad and after injuries mounted he finally got the chance to make his NFL debut. On November 21 he was promoted to the 53-man roster. In week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals Turner caught his first NFL pass and made a strong impression finishing the day with six catches for 80 yards.
Turner played in four games last season, tallying nine catches for 126 yards.
With an injury settlement the Eagles can waive Turner to free up a roster spot. As described by Dan Duggan of NJ.com, "an injury settlement is designed for a team to pay the player for the time he is expected to miss with the injury."
Turner is now free to sign with any team. The Eagles are eligible to resign Turner once the duration of the settlement plus three weeks have passed.
Turner has missed all of preseason with a scapula injury, but is expected to be healthy in the next couple weeks.
