Eagles release quarterback Tim Tebow

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have released quarterback Tim Tebow.

The Eagles' 53-man roster now has just two quarterbacks: Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez, as Matt Barkley was traded yesterday to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a conditional, 7th-round pick.

Head coach Chip Kelly said in a press conference Saturday afternoon that the Eagles will add another quarterback in the near future, in replacement of Tebow:

“We’re not done. We’ll look and see what happens with the waiver wire and whether we add a quarterback to the active roster or to the practice squad, but we’ll have a third quarterback in here.”

There has been speculation that Philadelphia could bring back the recently waived G.J. Kinne, who attempted a revival in his career as a wide receiver this training camp.

Tebow completed 21 of his 36 passes this preseason for 286 yards and two touchdowns.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner had a 90.7 quarterback rating as an Eagle, and threw just one interception.
