TJ Ward, set to become a free agent at 4pm today is reportedly drawing "strong interest" from the Eagles.
If early interest is any indication, the Eagles could strike very quickly to upgrade their secondary and perhaps with one of the top safeties available.
When NFL free agency opens at 4pm this afternoon, the Eagles could be in on either Jairus Byrd or TJ Ward.
Ward is receiving "strong interest" from the Eagles and Lions according to Jason LaCanfora of CBS sports .
At 5-10, 200 pounds, Ward is considered the second best safety on the market behind Byrd. Unlike Byrd who is more of a ballhawking safety, Ward's game is built around being a 'box safety' who can be a significant factor in both the pass rush and run support game.
Ward finished last season with the Cleveland Browns with 112 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two interceptions.
The Eagles are clearly making it a priority to upgrade safety, perhaps by striking early when the market opens.
On days like this, news can happen quickly. The Eagles have roughly $26 million to spend in free agency.
