Eagles Roster Moves: Darius Slay To Be Released

In a not so unsurprising move, reports surfaced Monday that the Eagles are releasing Darius Slay.
The captain has already announced that the 2025 season will likely be his last, but it may not be in Philadelphia.
Eagles are releasing six-time Pro-Bowl CB Darius Slay, per sources.

Slay’s current contract would have him count $13.78 million toward the cap and the move would immediately save $4.3 million this season (if they designate it as a post-June 1 cut), but more importantly $16 million in total moving forward – making it a good move for the team’s future to void the contract.
The veteran has been good in his time with the Eagles over the past four seasons, but during the 2024 season had to be replaced frequently due to knee and lower leg issues, which is a concern for a veteran player and may impact his market.
The move doesn’t provide too much idea of what the Eagles intend to do, however.
The Eagles also planned to release Slay two years ago, before they brought him back. They also released Fletcher Cox two years ago before he returned to the team. That’s all to say, Slay may still play his last season in Philadelphia so he shouldn’t be immediately counted out.
That said, Isaiah Rodgers, who replaced Slay throughout the season, is also a free agent and how the Eagles handle him becomes more important following the release of Slay.
