The Eagles traded up in the fourth round, surrendering their 139th pick and the 230th pick in the seventh-round for the Vikings 132nd pick.
After focusing on wide receivers in the 3rd round, the Eagles shift their attention the running backs, drafting Donnel Pumphrey with the 132nd overall pick.
Here is a scouting report on Donnel Pumphrey.
With Pumphrey, the Eagles select a running back who is reminiscent of Darren Sproles for sure, especially in size. The Eagles are currently struggling with finding consistency in the rushing game. Pumphrey possesses all of the assets as Sproles: high energy, great speed, quick cuts and a consistent receiver out of the backfield.
Pumphrey accounted for 1,150 touches in his college career, averaging 24.8 per game. This will address the issue of durability which the Eagles, along with many NFL teams, are struggling with. Most importantly, however, Pumphrey now holds the record for most FBS rushing yards with 6,405. Pumphrey also accounted for 62 rushing tds in his career.
Pumphrey's biggest concerns are that he is a smaller back, at 5'8" and 176 pounds. He did not play many big-time defenses in college, so he may have to adjust to the change in size and speed of his competition. With all of those touches, Pumphrey has proven he can be durable over the course of a season. Can he show this same toughness with the Eagles?
Overall, the Eagles traded up to get the guy they wanted. Pumphrey will fit perfectly in the new Eagles offense, and help improve the special teams with the 118th pick Mack Hollins.
