The Eagles have made their first selection in the 2017 NFL Draft and opted to bolster the defense.
With the 14th overall pick, the Eagles selected defensive end Derek Barnett from Tennessee.
Barnett had a strong junior season at Tennessee this past season, compiling 13.0 sacks, 56 tackles and 19 tackles for loss in 13 games. He also had one interception, two forced fumbles and five passes defended.
In his three years at Tennessee, Barnett had 32.0 sacks, breaking Reggie White's school record, as well as 198 tackles and 52 tackles for loss in 39 career games.
The Eagles are back on the clock on Day 2 with the 43rd overall pick in the second round on Friday night. We'll have a full scouting report on the newest Eagles first-round pick shortly.
