By Paul Bowman, Sports Talk Philly Staff Eagles showing interest in veteran punter

While the retirement of long-time Eagles punter Donnie Jones earlier this offseason helped the team get under the cap for the beginning of the new league year, it left a vacancy on the roster that the Eagles had not worried about for quite some time.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Eagles and a division rival are showing some interest in punter Pat O’Donnell:

O’Donnell has played all four years of his career with the Chicago Bears. He has appeared in 63 games and has a career average of 44.9 yards per punt.

Soon after Jones retired, the Eagles signed Cameron Johnston, who had competed with Jones to make the roster before being cut from training camp on May 11, 2017. Johnston has yet to appear in a regular season game, so the Eagles may be looking to bring in some veteran competition to be sure that they enter the 2018 season with the best special teams possible.
