Running back and return specialist Darren Sproles will be sticking around Philadelphia a little longer.
The Eagles announced a one-year extension with the veteran running back on Friday morning. The one-year deal will allow Sproles to earn $4.5 million next season. He was slated to make $3.5 million this season.
Sproles was absent from OTAs this season, but assured it had nothing to do with his contract.
The 33-year-old running back is entering his third season with the Eagles. In 31 games with the Eagles, Sproles has rushed for 646 yards and nine touchdowns. In his career, Sproles has rushed for 2,867 yards and 20 touchdowns. In addition, Sproles also has 95 catches for 775 yards and one touchdown in his two seasons with the Eagles.
Sproles is also a prolific return man, the only player in NFL history to have 15 or more rushing touchdowns, 25 or more receiving touchdowns and five or more punt-return touchdowns. Sproles has four punt-return touchdowns in two seasons with the Eagles after amassing three in his previous eight seasons.
