Eagles sign QB Bethel-Thompson, CB Grymes
The Eagles made two interesting pickups on Thursday, signing quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and cornerback Aaron Grymes.
Bethel-Thompson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 and has never played in an NFL. He was on the NFL roster for the Minnesota Vikings in 2012 and part of 2013 before returning to the 49ers for the remainder of the 2013 season.
In three seasons at Sacramento State, Bethel-Thompson played in 12 games, completing 113 of 197 passes with eight touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Grymes, who went to Idaho, has spent the last three seasons in the CFL. In 41 games, he has 101 tackles, one sack and eight interceptions.
In 50 career games with Idaho, Grymes had 204 total tackles and two interceptions.
In addition to the signing of Bethel-Thompson, the Eagles have may pursue Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel, who is set to become a free agent. Daniel was the backup to Alex Smith while new head coach Doug Pederson was serving as offensive coordinator. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network lists Daniel as a name to watch for the Eagles and cites that Pederson has said he believes Daniel could be a successful starter in the NFL.
