The Eagles did not add a running back like many expected them to in the draft and promptly re-signed free agent running back Darren Sproles to a one-year contract.
The team was also widely expected to add a new wide receiver into the fold during the draft but again deferred during the three-day event. Now it seems that we have an answer as to why they opted to leave wide receivers on the board in Dallas. The team announced on its offical Twitter page that they have signed veteran wide receiver Markus Wheaton to a 1-year contract:

Wheaton's early career portrayed an upward trajectory after posting two promising seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the Steelers used a third round selection in 2013 on the receiver from Oregon State.
Wheaton combined for 97 receptions and 1,393 yards between 2014 and 2015 with Pittsburgh. Wheaton was limited to just three games due to injury in 2016 and then exited Pittsburgh via free agency. Wheaton played 11 games last season for the Chicago Bears but only managed three receptions for 51 yards.
The former high school track star averages 14.2 yards per reception for his career, so he does bring the ability to stretch the field. Health and consistency remain question marks for the 27-year old receiver and will be a reclamation project in camp for the Eagles.
The Eagles currently have Alshon Jeffery, Mike Wallace, Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins, Shelton Gibson, Bryce Treggs, Rashard Davis, Greg Ward, Dom Williams, and Marquess Williams as the other wide receivers currently on the roster. Wheaton will have to impress to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.
