Howie Roseman has struck a deal from a position of depth.
As I covered yesterday, the Eagles are already with a defensive line that really has six ends and five tackles worthy of making the roster.
That doesn’t include DE Eli Harold, who the team acquired via trade a few weeks ago, or DT Bruce Hector who was turning some heads at camp.
The Eagles GM has struck another deal to make his own decisions on the line a bit easier.
On Thursday afternoon, the team announced that they had agreed to trade Hector to the Cardinals, who are in need of defensive line depth, in exchange for safety Rudy Ford.

Hector was signed as an undrafted free agent last season by the Eagles, but played eight games with the team in the wake of injuries. He recorded only half a sack and two tackles in his limited time on the field.
He could very well take a step forward in his sophomore season, but the Eagles would not get to find out as a team would certainly have claimed him off waivers when he was cut in a roster crunch that is filled with talented defensive linemen.
Ford, meanwhile, joins a position that is far from locked down on the Eagles roster, but has only a small amount of time to learn a new defense.
After being a sixth-round pick in the 2017 Draft, Ford appeared in 23 games with the Cardinals, largely as a special-teamer. Last season, he registered nine tackles on defense.
His special teams background will be vital in his making the Eagles 53-man roster.
He will join a competition that includes Andrew Sendejo, Tre Sullivan, Johnathan Cyprien, Deiondre’ Hall and Trae Elston. He could also be a player the Eagles target to sign to the practice squad.
