The Eagles were referred to as a team actively shopping their first round pick at the 2018 NFL draft. When they went on the clock at 32nd overall the team found a trade partner with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Eagles sent the 32nd overall (1st round) and 132nd overall (4th round) to the Ravens in exchange for the 52nd overall pick (2nd round), 125th overall (4th round), and a 2nd round selection in the 2019 draft.
The Ravens used the Eagles first round selection to select Louisville quarterback and former Heisman Trophy recipient Lamar Jackson.
The Eagles acquiring extra draft picks was expected, as the team is hard pressed for salary cap space before Carson Wentz becomes eligible for what is anticipated to be a large contract extension. Retaining Wentz becomes more realistic with the more rookie contracts that the team has on its payroll.
The Eagles will go back on the clock tomorrow with the 52nd overall pick.
