Two weeks ago, it was a significant trade sending cornerback Ronald Darby to the Eagles for wide receiver Jordan Matthews. On Sunday, four days from the Eagles final preseason game, they added more depth at the cornerback position.
The Eagles traded safety Terrence Brooks to the New York Jets for cornerback Dexter McDougle.
Brooks was among the safeties battling for a spot on the roster with the likes of Corey Graham and Jaylen Watkins. Brooks played in 11 games last season with the Eagles, recording five tackles, one interception and one pass defended.
McDougle was a third-round draft pick of the Jets in 2014, but missed his rookie season due to a torn ACL. In two seasons with the Jets, McDougle has seen limited playing time and has just seven combined tackles in the two seasons. The expectation is that McDougle could serve as a depth option for the Eagles until second-round pick Sidney Jones is ready to return to the field.
McDougle has limited time to prepare for the Eagles final preseason game and make an impression on the team. He will be on the field as the Eagles take on the Jets on Thursday night from MetLife Stadium for the final game of the preseason at 7 p.m.
The Eagles roster was trimmed by three on Saturday as the team waived receivers Keevan Lucas and David Watford and cornerback Tay Glover-Wright on Saturday. The Eagles have to bring the roster to 53 by Saturday, Sept. 2.
