This season was remarkable for a ton of reasons, but without Eagles VP of football operations Howie Roseman, getting in a position to go to Super Bowl LII wouldn't be possible.
For good reasons, the Pro Football Writers of America have named Howie Roseman Executive of the Year. The award was given out on Thursday afternoon.
The moves Roseman made to make the Eagles a better team this season alone netted him the Coach of the Year honors, but getting the Birds in position to succeed happened long before this season.
Since Chip Kelly was relieved of his duties at the end of the 2015 season, Roseman regained control of the team and completely changed the way he did business from when he was the GM from 2010-2014.
Roseman pulled the trigger in 2016 to trade a variety of draft picks to the Cleveland Browns to be able to grab Carson Wentz at No. 2 in the 2016 NFL Draft.
For this season, the goal for the Eagles was simple: Give Wentz his weapons.
And that's what Roseman did. He signed wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, signed LeGarrette Blount, and in the middle of the season, he traded a fourth round pick to the Miami Dolphins for running back Jay Ajayi.
In addition to improving the Eagles' offense, Roseman drastically added pieces to make the defense more successful and formidable.
Veteran defensive end Chris Long came to Philadelphia, along with Tim Jernigan, who Roseman made a trade for. Roseman also made a gutsy decision to trade fan-favorite wide receiver Jordan Matthews to the Buffalo Bills for cornerback Ronald Darby.
Like clockwork, Matthews struggled to get anything going with the Bills this season, spending much of the year on the mend, while once-struggling Nelson Agholor took over in the slot and had one of the most improved seasons in the NFL this season.
To take a team that struggled to be a winning team last season, to a team that is competing for a chance to win the franchise it's first Super Bowl championship in team history, Howie Roseman is the obvious selection for this honor.
Since the PFWA established the Executive of the Year Award in 1993, Roseman is officially the first Eagles exec to win the award.
