PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Games on Mondays and starts by Jerad Eickhoff have not ended well for the Phillies. The second-year starter pitched better than his last outing, but run support was an issue again as the Marlins picked up some timely hits.
Also, for the fifth time this season, the Phillies lost on a Monday, dropping the series opener to the Marlins, 5-3, at Citizens Bank Park.

The Marlins struck first as their hottest hitter of late continued his torrid play. Marcell Ozuna crushed a two-out, solo home run to left in the second to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and put the Marlins on the board.
The Phillies tied the game in the fourth. Carlos Ruiz led off the inning with a walk and a one-out single by Freddy Galvis moved him into scoring position. Tyler Goeddel followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
Miami regained the lead in the fifth. After loading the bases with nobody out, Martin Prado hit a sacrifice fly to score Adeiny Hechavarria from third.
Derek Dietrich hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to add another run, extending the Marlins lead to three. Christian Yelich added an RBI double in the seventh as well to make it a 5-1 game.
The Phillies loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but managed just one run on a fielder's choice by Ruiz.
The Phillies added another run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Maikel Franco that came just short of a game-tying home run.
Adam Conley allowed one run on eight hits in six innings for the win. Eickhoff had a solid outing, allowing three runs on six hits, but suffered his sixth loss of the season.
Tommy Joseph picked up his first major-league hit, a single in the sixth.
The Phillies were 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.
