Elbow soreness causes Franco to exit game early

On Monday night, the Phillies tallied their fourth consecutive victory with a 5-3 win over the Rays. Phils rookie Maikel Franco, hitting a solid .283 this season, went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. After making a spectacular play at third base in the sixth to nab Tim Beckham at first, Franco began to feel some elbow soreness. As part of a double switch in the eighth, Franco was removed from the game. Following the Phillies win, interim manager Pete Mackanin didn't seem too concerned about Franco's injury.

"At this point, I'm not that concerned," Mackanin said. "It wasn't good news to hear, but we'll wait and see tomorrow what the trainers say." [Phillies.com]

Since being called up to the Phillies on May 15th, Franco has yet to take a day off. He's played in nearly 60 straight games, but the Phils third baseman isn't convinced that his elbow issues are stemming for being overworked. He will be evaluated by team doctors on Tuesday.

"Not really, because that's what I do every single day at Minor Leagues too," Franco said. "I take a lot of early work, and it's not going to happen in the [Major] Leagues." [Phillies.com]

“It bothered me on the throw,” said Franco, who drove in his 35th run in 59 games with a seed off the left-field wall in the fifth inning. “There was a little pain.” [CSNPhilly.com]
