MLB.com Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki reports that pitcher Elvis Araujo has been placed on the 15-Day DL with a left groin strain which he suffered during last night's extra inning contest. Up until now, Araujo has enjoyed a successful first season in the majors. In 40 games (34.2 innings), the southpaw has pitched to a 3.38 striking out 34 and walking 19. Sadly he is among the few relievers for the Phillies that has been pitching half decent lately.

Talking his place is reliever Nefi Ogando who was acquired from the Red Sox in 2013 for John McDonald. Between Reading and Lehigh Valley, Ogando has a 3.05 ERA over 59 innings with 50 strike outs.

In other news, The Morning Call's Tom Housenick reports that tonight's starter for Lehigh Valley, Alec Asher has been scratched. Asher was of course one of the pitchers acquired in the Cole Hamels trade and has pitched very well over his four starts in Triple-A with a 2.08 ERA. Asher will start on Sunday for the Phillies, according to Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News, while Jerome Williams heads to the bullpen. He could rejoin the rotation in September with reports pointing to the Phillies employing a six-man rotation to limit innings of their young pitchers.
