The NBA has their award show tonight to reveal who won the league's best rookie and the Most Valuable Player among others. On Monday morning, they announced their NBA All-Rookie First Team and to one's surprise, Philadelphia 76ers rookies Dario Saric and Joel Embiid made the team. The Sixers are the first NBA team since 2008 to have two players on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Saric, along with the Bucks Malcolm Brogdon, were voted to the team unanimously as they both received all 100 First-Team votes from a panel that includes sportscasters and writers from around the country. Embiid received 82 First-Team votes. Brogdon, Embiid and Saric are also the three finalists for NBA Rookie of the Year.
Embiid, 23, played in 31 games this season for the Sixers before suffering a slight tear in his Achilles. During those 31 games, he was phenomenal, averaging 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, all tops among 2016-17 rookies. He also led first-year players with 12 double doubles.
Dario was second among rookies in scoring (12.8 ppg) and third in rebounding (6.3 rpg). He really turned it on in the second half of the season, averaging 17.3 points, which led all rookies, and 7.3 rebounds per game. Saric finished the season with 10 double doubles, which was good for second best in the rookie class behind Embiid.
Joining Embiid, Saric and Brogdon on the All-Rookie First-Team are Kings guard Buddy Hield and Knicks big man Willy Hernangomez.
