Acho was a member of a very deep Eagles inside linebacker group, and was making a case for himself to make the final roster as a special teams player and ILB before the thumb injury.
According to the waived/injured process, a player is designated with the "waived/injured" title when he has fewer than four years experience instead of being placed on IR. The player is exposed to waivers, but potentially interested teams are warned about the injury. If the player passes through waivers, the team can then place them on IR, or agree on an injury settlement, followed by the player's release.
The Eagles acquired Acho in 2013 from the Cleveland Browns for running back Dion Lewis. The 24-year-old saw extended playing time in 2014 following injuries to both DeMeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks, playing in 14 games and starting two. He recorded 21 tackles and 10 tackle assists.
