The Scott Kingery era is (officially) over!

The Philadelphia Phillies have traded former top prospect Scott Kingery to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations, the team announced.

The 48th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, Kingery quickly rose through the Phils’ minor league system including an appearance in the 2017 MLB All-Star Futures Game. The Phoenix, Arizona native signed a six-year contract extension with the club prior to the 2018 MLB season. He would make his MLB debut on Opening Day of that season. Kingery slashed .229/.280/.387 with 30 homers, 96 RBI, and 25 SB in parts of five Big League seasons.

While he never developed at the plate, Kingery wasn’t exactly aided by the organization. A second baseman by trade, Kingery was forced to play multiple positions with the Phillies including stints in the outfield. Now, he will go down in the long list of Phillies draft picks that “could’ve been.”
