The deal is done. After time to mull it over, Michael Young has accepted the trade to Philadelphia and will be the Phillies' starting third baseman. The cost: relief pitcher Josh Lindbloom and minor league pitcher Lisalberto Bonilla, reports CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury.
The Phillies acquired Lindblom at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Shane Victorino. The primary piece in the trade, Ethan Martin, is still a legitimate pitching prospect in the system. Lisalverto Bonilla, named to the Futures Game in 2012, was injured prior to the game. It cost him the rest of the season but was pitching in the Dominican winter league.
To accept the trade, Young waived his no-trade rights as a "10 and 5" player to join the Phillies. In exchange for doing so, the Phillies will give him no-trade protection for the 2013 season. Young's contract runs out after the upcoming season.
Young started 25 games at third base last season and will serve as the Phillies' primary third baseman in 2013.
