Fister Outduels Hamels in 2-1 Loss

The skid continues as the Phillies really couldn't solve Doug Fister tonight. He looked a bit vulnerable in the 4th inning but all they scratched out of it was one run on a Michael Young RBI. He was dominant for eight strong innings.

Cole Hamels put together a really nice start himself. He got hurt by a two run double by Alex Avila in a tough 5th inning but overall he was really quite good tonight. Yeah the Win/Loss crowd may throw his 13th loss out there and it was but it's more important that he put together more starts like this one. If you get seven innings and two runs out of your starter, he did his job. Yet, the mistake to Avila cost him the game.

Pitching freaks like myself enjoy well pitched games and this was certainly one of them. As rumors start to swirl, the Phillies dropped their sixth game in a row and it just doesn't look like there is much hope in the cards.

7:08 start time tomorrow. Cliff Lee is scratched with a "sore neck" and Raul Valdes will start in his place. Valdes has been starting in Lehigh Valley and in twelve starts had a 3.11 ERA with 59 Ks and 20 BBs. It's Triple-A but he's stretched out. He faces Max Scherzer .
