Thanks to two 75-yard bombs and another tremendous day from Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Eagles found themselves collecting their first loss of the 2018-2019 NFL season, 27-21. This game seemed over as soon as Jackson walked in to the end-zone on the first play of the game. The Eagles secondary was giving the Bucs' receivers way too much respect at the line of scrimmage and were paying for it all game. It felt like most of today’s game was spent waiting on a mistake from Fitzpatrick that never came our way. Fitzpatrick became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 400+ yards and four touchdowns in each of his first two games.
While the Buccaneers were led by Fitzpatrick, the receiving corps put up some great numbers. Ex-Eagle Desean Jackson went for 129 yards and a touchdown on four catches. Mike Evans came up big for most of the game with 10 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. They didn't have much in the way of running the ball with only 43 yards total, but it did not seem to matter much. The Eagles defense was giving them the pass all game and they took full advantage.
The Eagles would come on late led by some solid pitch-and-catch between Foles and the receivers as five different guys had five catches or more, led by Zach Ertz. Ertz had a big second half, which contributed to his 11 catches for 94 yards on the day. Some other weapons also emerged as Nelson Agholor was solid once again posting eight catches for 88 yards and a touchdown (also an incredible hurdle of a camera man) and Corey Clement quietly got himself 85 scrimmage yards and a touchdown.
Even though the Eagles lost today there is plenty to look forward to. There were positives to take from today's game as the Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys all stand at 1-1 with the Giants at 0-2. Next week the Eagles will take on the Colts and there is a possibility to get both Carson Wentz and Alshon Jeffery back for that game on Sunday.
