The Philadelphia Flyers have already participated in two
Winter Classics. It appears that they
are a strong candidate to appear in a third.
Tim Pannacchio of CSN Philly is reporting that the Flyers and the Boston
Bruins are the two finalists to meet the Washington Capitals in Washington D.C. News broke today that the Capitals were awarded the game.
The Flyers hosted the Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park in 2012 and played in the outdoor event at Fenway Park when the Boston Bruins hosted the event in 2010. The Winter Classic began in 2008 when the Buffalo Sabres hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills.
The location of the game has not been determined just yet; it could be either at Nationals Stadium or Fed Ex Field. Either way, if the Flyers are awarded, Interstate 95 and Amtrak will have a busy day.
