With a 5-4 overtime win against the New York Islanders at the Spectrum, The Philadelphia Flyers won their 13th consecutive game — with no ties — a team record.
Led by two power-play goals by winger Tim Kerr, the Flyers would rally from a 4-1 deficit and force overtime with a Dave Poulin goal late in the third period. The heroics of Murray Craven at 3:52 of overtime would give the Flyers the win, while netminder Darren Jensen stopped 29 of 33 shots.
The win would give the Flyers a record of 15-2 to start the season. In the home and home series with the Islanders, the Flyers would fall 8-6 to New York at Long Island just two nights later and the streak would come to an end.
The streak propelled the Flyers to their second 53 win season in a row, but injuries and the tragic loss of All-Star goalie Pelle Lindbergh led to a disappointing exit from the playoffs. The emotionally draining season ended at the hands of the New York Rangers in the first round.
